Meet Mr. Schu: “Xtreme Librarian” and Invited Speaker for the 2018 CCIRA Conference
If you are a CCIRA enthusiast, you’re probably already wondering who will be at the 2018 Conference. . . Here’s a sneak peek of an invited speaker who is new to our conference—a true representative of the DaVinci-inspired educator at the heart of Literacy Renaissance: Invention, Intention, and Close Study.
John Schumacher may love books more than anyone I’ve ever seen. Including Donalyn Miller. (Okay, maybe he’s tied with Donalyn Miller, but the comparison illustrates his dedication to children’s literature.) Mr. Schu, as he’s affectionately known on Twitter and in the blogging world, has built a name for himself as an expert, not only on what is new and a must-read, but on ways to build connections with students (and adults) through what we read.
His blog is packed with reviews, book trailers, and interviews with favorite authors and illustrators. His Twitter feed (@MrSchuReads) is a goldmine of book recommendations and strategies for building reading communities in our classrooms and schools. As an elementary librarian, Mr. Schu has captivated students with his excitement about reading. As the current Ambassador of School Libraries for Scholastic Book Fairs, Mr. Schu travels the U.S., inspiring fellow readers with his dedication to sharing the magic of children’s literature. Here’s a link to a video and article from his recent appearance on CBS This Morning—just a peek at the life of a reading ambassador!
We hope you’ll be inspired to join Mr. Schu’s online band of merry readers, and we hope to see you in his (undoubtedly) packed session at CCIRA in February!
