Read a great book and add it to the patchwork quilt of memories and
treasures to remember by reading aloud during the month of October!
The Colorado Council of the International Reading Association has once
again designated October as Read Aloud Month in the state. The goal of the
project is to encourage parents, and adults in a child's life, to participate in their
children's literacy development by reading aloud. Studies prove that the most
important activity adults can do in preparing children for success in school and
becoming successful readers is to read aloud with them from the early years.
Setting aside time to read with your child helps him/her learn and develop an
interest in reading. It builds a love of books, a sense of story, an appreciation for
language, and expands vocabulary. By joining us in this endeavor, you and your
school can take an active role in encouraging family involvement in children's
growth as readers.
