Recognizes an administrator for "Outstanding Administrative Leadership in Reading".

Celebrate Literacy Award Committee
Presents a literacy award to an individual or organization who is outstanding in promoting literacy.
College Committee
Distributes information to recruit college students to become members of IRA and CCIRA.
Colorado Blue Spruce Young Adult Book Award Committee
(in collaboration with Colorado Language Arts Society,
part of NCTE, National Council of the Teachers of English)
Presents an award to the author of a young adult book recognizing his/her contribution to YA literature in Colorado
secondary schools.

Colorado Children's Book Award Committee
Presents an award (from nominations by the young readers) to the authors of a children's picture
book and a junior novel as recognition for their contribution to children's literature in Colorado. Click

Colorado Young Writers' Award Committee
Determines the winners of the Young Writers' contest and presents the awards at the CCIRA conference.
Communications and Publications Committee
Oversees and publishes proposed publications for CCIRA including
Colorado Communicator and

Community Service Grant/Award Committee
2011 Conference Committee
Plans the CCIRA conference for the year 2011.
Equity and Diversity Committee
Ethics Committee
Acts as a clearing committee for concerns that arise within the CCIRA membership if it is determined that the concern
falls within the jurisdiction of the Ethics committee.
Evaluation Committee
Develops evaluation forms for the Council Leadership conference and other forms as requested by the Executive Committee.
Exemplary Reading Program Award Committee
Decides on the school reading program that will receive the award and presents the award at the CCIRA conference.

Maintains a file of IRA position statements, resolutions, position papers developed by other state councils, and other

Selects a recipient of this award from reading educators in Colorado and presents the award at the annual conference.
Legislative Committee
Keeps and distributes to members a file of IRA legislative updates and state legislation concerning educational issues.

Promotes membership for local, state and national IRA.
Newspapers in Education/Public Awareness in Reading Committee
Provides information about NIE week by communicating in the
Colorado Communicator and disseminating the NIE week

Nominating Committee
Solicits candidates for open offices on the Board of Directors, prepares, distributes, and counts ballots and announces
the results of the election to the CCIRA president.

Encourages each local council to promote parents and reading activities, distribute literature, and support parent

Solicits nominations of CCIRA members who are first year teachers who have made an outstanding contribution to the field
of reading.
Read Aloud Committee
Continues the statewide promotion of reading aloud to children.
Rules and Bylaws Committee
Reviews the Bylaws of the CCIRA to determine if they are meeting current needs as well as the needs of the foreseeable
future.
Star Grant Committee (Stimulate Teacher's Achievement in Reading Grant)
Reviews applications and awards STAR grants.
Strategic/Long Range Planning Committee
Provides long range planning for CCIRA.
Supplemental Grant Committee
Provides grants to local councils to support a special program.
Teacher as Reader Committee
Serves as liaison to the IRA Teacher as Reader committee and selects recipients of the CCIRA Teachers as Readers Grant.
Teacher as Writer Committee
Offers grants to members of CCIRA to encourage them to be involved in teacher writing groups.
Teacher Research Network
Presents a session at the CCIRA conference on the topic of teacher as researcher and publishes an article in the
Colorado
Communicator about the teacher as a researcher.
Technology & New Literacies
Thelma Pett Continuing Education Award Committee
Recognizes potential in the teaching of reading and/or related subjects by presenting a continuing education award to
nominees on the basis of financial need and personal qualifications.
