Top Ten Reasons You Should Attend the
2011 CCIRA Literacy Conference Feb 2-5

10. You're a first year teacher and you want some ideas and encouragement for what you're doing in the classroom. Need some help with those Tier 2 and 3 kids? We can help! Need some help getting your classroom organized for maximum learning? We can help!

9. Do you know kids in grades 2-10 that love to write, or love to read? Bring them to the Author's Festival on Saturday where they can meet several authors and attend small group sessions about being writers and readers. They can also get their books autographed by Dom Testa, Liz Garton Scanlon, Alan Sitomer, and Mike Thaler.

8. February is a little over half way through the school year and you will need a boost! You're wondering how you can keep doing what you're doing when it feels like you're doing all you can? Want to be encouraged about what you do in the classroom every day? Make plans to join us for the Alan Sitomer luncheon on Friday and leave hopeful and inspired.

7. After being in the classroom for six or more months, you'll want a little professional development wrapped up in fun! Come to the Steve Spangler luncheon and laugh, learn something about science, and how to reach kids that need a little something extra.

6. You are a middle or high school educator and wonder what there might be for you? In 2011 we have some amazing authors and presenters geared specifically for secondary educators and administrators: Jordan Sonnenblick, Wendy Mass, David Lubar, Laurence Yep, Dom Testa, Ruth Culham, Cynthia Lord, Todd Mitchell, Jim Wright... and that's just for starters!

5. We all know that teachers have to remember to get relicensed every five years. Attend the conference, keep track of your sessions, write a paper, get college credit! More detailed info will be in the program booklet at the conference and on the website.

4. Tired of the same classroom materials you've had for years? Our exhibitors will have wonderful new materials that can help you feel like you're a new teacher! They can also help you with ideas for making your classroom a place where kids can feel successful.

3. We all have favorite books we use in the classroom, written by our favorite authors. Some of those favorite authors are presenting at the 2011 Conference! Where else can you see all these authors at one conference: Patricia Polacco, Mike Thaler, Jane Kurtz, Steve Gray and Jennifer Ward, Laurie Keller–and many more! Click here for a complete list, including links to their websites.

2. You're a teacher librarian and you want ideas for collaborating with the classroom teachers at your school. We have just the person–Toni Buzzeo is the guru of collaboration, and we have her! Toni will be our keynote speaker on Thursday and will be presenting both Thursday and Friday.

And the Number 1 reason you should attend the 2011 CCIRA Conference on Literacy?

1. The CCIRA Literacy Conference draws some of the most knowledgeable presenters from across the United States, and even from Canada this year! This year we're welcoming Katie Wood Ray, Regie Routman, Frank Serafini, Dr. Michael Klentschy, Jeff Wilhelm, Michael Opitz, Jim Wright, Gretchen Bernabei, Ruth Culham, Lori Jamison, Reggie Rivers, to name just a few!
